Tic toc tic toc…
I broke the strap off of my faithful watch a few months ago. At first, I didn’t go out to replace it out of laziness. Now, it’s because I believe the quality of my life has gone up since I’ve been without it. I can still get the time from my cell phone if I need to, but only when precisely that: it’s when I need to.
I went out to the market last Sunday, ordered a nice cup of coffee and sandwich, and read while sitting on a park bench. When I felt satisfied, I got up and left. It was wonderful and relaxing.
The old me would have looked at my watch every five minutes at that park bench. Knowing what time it was at that instant would instigate distracting thoughts. Oh I should probably get up. Oh I should do this for another 20 minutes. Oh the afternoon is passing quick.
I would be needlessly be preoccupied by such matters. So, off it goes. Now, I only check the time when I actually have a reason to. And that is liberating.

I couldn’t make the following up if I tried…
A few weeks ago the watch in my battery died. Being that I too am lazy, I didn’t replace it right away. Eventually I just stopped wearing a watch, resorting to my cell when necessary, but most of the time not caring.
Today was the first day in a long time that I put a watch on, doing so without thinking. Ten seconds after walking out of the house I was like “WTF is this”.
It’s weird how we make ourselves slaves to the clock…
The whole first year after I retired, I stopped wearing my watch…I had a job where my schedule was intimitely dictated by the time of day…It was totally liberating and although I now choose to wear a watch..it’s not compulory, and usually use the watch while a client is here, simply to keep me from going to far off ”their” time…Congratulations for getting rid of a ”time” addiction. Life is SO much more enjoyable without it. I find that my ”inner clock ” wakes me in the morning at the appropriate time.
Ever notice the number of watches I own VS the number of watches I wear? I’ve got a few you probably haven’t ever seen actually….
