The bad with the good

Alright, well over the last year I’ve been doing status updates about my weight. At my peak in August of 2009, I weighed 187 pounds. At my lowest since then, in January 2010, I weighed 161.

I can’t just keep giving good news, so here’s the bad: I’ve gained much of that weight back. I’m at 180. Jay and I are working together on a new plan to lose weight once more.

I used to eat one meal a day. That’s how I did the initial weight loss. It wasn’t very sustainable, and as soon as my eating patterns changed after meeting Jay, I started to gain the weight back. So the trick now is to reduce weight while eating healthily, and Jay is helping me very much in this respect.

    Julien,

No gimmick diet is going to work. You have to be willing to do a lifestyle change when it comes to eating habits.
Think of the body as a furnace. How do you keep the fire going and maintain a good metabolism. You put a little in at a time several times a day. Put too much in at once and the fire gets smothered. Don’t put in enough and it can’t sustain.

I have gone through a constant struggle with this and have done every diet from Jenny Craig to Atkins and several times. I finally lost 100 lbs using Optifast (all liquid diet for 24 weeks). I wouldn’t recommend that approach, but it was what I needed to do. Now I have gone 6 months without regaining more than 10 pounds, but I had to get a lot of education on what to eat and how our body handles it.

Good luck with finding the solution that works best for you with the right balance of food and exercise. It’s not a diet, but a way of life.

    Thanks William.

I agree with you. I’m going to have to adjust my life so that I ensure that I eat well and exercise. My problem is one of willpower. I *say* I want to lose weight, and I *do* want to lose weight, but when it comes to actually doing the things that matter to achieve this goal, I have great difficulty.

That’s why I’m getting my boyfriend to help me out, and to give me that boost of willpower I need when mine wavers.

I think the commitment on the biggest loser would work here. How about taking some pictures in some shorts from side and front and put the weight on it. Then, each week, update the site with the current weight. That should motivate you in the right direction and might help motivate others as well.
